Immediately after an abortion there is usually a tremendous sense of relief.  Tension has been high ever since pregnancy was suspected and now it is over.  Sadly that is not the end of the story.  Painful emotions are likely to surface which have to be dealt with, which may lead to the woman suffering with Post Abortion Syndrome.

Onset

Post Abortion Syndrome symptoms are most likely to surface from 6 months to 2 years after an abortion but can occur immediately or many years after.  Their onset can be acute causing immense emotional distress and life disruption or chronic with intensity of symptoms building up over months and years.

Possible Symptoms of Post Abortion Syndrome

  • Anger at self and others
  • Anxiety over fertility and childbearing issues
  • Depression
  • Grief
  • Guilt
  • Relationship Difficulties
  • Uncontrollable Crying
  • Increase of symptoms around anniversary dates - the abortion and/or due date of baby
Hope

With help it is possible to work towards coming to terms with your situation.
