About Us
Care in Crisis is a faith-based, Christian organisation. Originally started as a crisis pregnancy centre in
1994, we have since developed a range of counselling services and are now recognised as a professional
counselling agency in the area.
We continue to grow and expand to meet the needs presented to us so if you don't find what you need
from the issues listed please contact us and speak to one of our counsellors.
Our Counsellors
Our counsellors are dedicated volunteers who make themselves available for clients on a weekly basis.
All are committed Christians. They are men and women with a wide range of work and life experience who
understand how stresses and difficulties can affect relationships and well-being.
All of our counsellors are carefully selected and trained to recognised professional standards. They all take
part in continuing personal and professional development and receive regular supervision. They each adhere
to the confidentiality policy of Care in Crisis.
Care in Crisis is affiliated to the Association of Christian Counsellors (ACC) and the British Association for
Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and uphold their codes of ethics.
The Counselling Process
Referral
Anyone can contact us to refer him or herself for counselling. A GP, Social Worker, Clergy, family or friends
may suggest counselling as support for you. Counselling is voluntary so it is better if you make your own
decision. This can take some courage and just making the phone call can help you take the first step.
When you phone us you will be asked to give some details and leave a contact telephone number. We try
to contact you with an appointment within two weeks of referral although waiting times vary due to
availability of counsellors or if you can only come on specific days or at a particular time.
Initial Appointment
You will be offered an initial appointment to explore if Care in Crisis is the most suitable agency to help you
with your difficulty. The counsellor who sees you for this appointment may not be the counsellor who will be
assigned to you for ongoing sessions. At this appointment you may be asked to complete a questionnaire
which will be helpful in measuring the benefit of your counselling. This is part of the Clinical Outcomes in
Routine Evaluation (CORE) database and is used by the agency to monitor and improve the service we
provide to clients.
Counselling Sessions
Your counsellor will discuss the counselling agreement. Initially you will be offered 6 sessions, on a weekly
basis. Each session usually lasts 1 hour. Counselling is not time-limited and you and your counsellor will
regularly review the usefulness of counselling and either agree an ending or agree further sessions.
Your counsellor will seek to develop a caring and supporting relationship within which you can explore your
thoughts, feelings and behaviour and understand why you do what you do. This self-awareness usually
brings about positive change.
Financial Costs
Counselling services are offered without charge. However, we are a charity and donations are welcomed
according to your means.
